Friday Night Pour Vol. 11: Sunday Went Off Script at Jallo

Our Jallo cigar lounge stop in New Port Richey started with an uplifting talent show, an unplanned detour, and three football games on TV. I had bourbon and a cigar. Gina had an espresso and a chocolate cigar. Somewhere along the way, a simple Sunday outing turned into exactly the kind of afternoon Bathrobe Patriot is about.

This installment of Friday Night Pour happened on a Sunday. Off duty doesn’t punch a time clock.

We discovered Jallo Wine & Spirits on the way to the show and decided to stop on the way home. No elaborate itinerary. Just a place that caught our attention and a reason to take our time.

Sunday went off script. I’m glad it did.

Jallo Cigar Lounge: The Quick Take

Jallo Wine & Spirits in New Port Richey combines a liquor store, an indoor cigar lounge, a full bar, and outdoor patio seating. During our Sunday visit around 4:30 p.m., a handful of people were there, and three TVs showed three different football games. The comfortable leather seating and attentive service made it an enjoyable stop with Gina. The main limitation for football fans was the number of screens.

The Sunday Started With Something Worth Showing Up For

Gina works for Breakthroughs LLC. That Sunday, the company held a talent show for its clients at Richey Suncoast Theatre.

The theater was beautiful and comfortable, and the show was genuinely uplifting. It gave the afternoon a good start before bourbon or football entered the picture.

There’s a place for that in the Bathrobe Patriot world, too. Getting out with someone you enjoy, supporting people, and experiencing something beyond your usual routine are all part of building a better life outside of work.

I talk about that in The Off-Duty Man’s Guide. This Sunday was a real example: go somewhere, show up for something, and leave enough room for the day to surprise you.

The surprise was Jallo.

Walking Into the Jallo Cigar Lounge

The entrance makes the arrangement pretty clear: wine and spirits, with a cigar lounge and full bar inside. Barrel stacks flank the doors, and bottle graphics run along the side of the building.

Inside, the lounge has a different feel from the liquor-store aisles. A dark bronze, pressed-tin-style ceiling sits above crystal chandeliers. Brown Chesterfield-style leather chairs, with deep button tufting and nailhead trim, are grouped around dark tables.

The bar runs along the back, with illuminated bottles, beer taps, and the football screens overhead. Portraits line the dark walls. Nearby, a baby grand piano sits below a Havana street painting, with a small American flag on top.

It’s a room that gives you a reason to sit down.

And the tables are equipped for the activity: ashtrays, butane torches, and rocks glasses. There’s also a large stainless pedestal ashtray near the window seating that looks substantial enough to deserve its own parking space.

The leather chairs and table layout were part of the appeal for us. We could sit together, enjoy our drinks and cigars, and keep an eye on the games.

My Pour: Angel’s Envy and an Arturo Fuente Short Story

For my side of the afternoon, I went with Jallo’s private-barrel Angel’s Envy Single Barrel and an Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story Natural.

The bourbon was 110 proof, or 55% ABV, and finished in port wine barrels. Angel’s Envy describes its Private Selection Single Barrel program as a 110-proof bourbon finished in a port wine barrel and bottled for a private selection.

That gave the pour a connection to the place we had just discovered. A lounge’s own barrel selection is a detail I want to notice when I’m deciding what to order.

The cigar was the Short Story Natural from the Arturo Fuente Hemingway line. Together, those were my Friday Night Pour ingredients for this Sunday installment.

If you’re putting together your own combination, my bourbon and cigar pairing guide explains how I approach the match. Give each one a little attention, then see what happens when you enjoy them together.

At Jallo, the setting belonged in the story as much as the glass and cigar did. Gina was beside me, football was on, and we had found somewhere worth spending the next part of our afternoon.

Gina’s Pairing: Espresso and a Chocolate Cigar

Gina had an espresso and a Tatiana chocolate cigar.

We each chose what we wanted. My glass had bourbon in it. Hers had espresso. Both of us had a cigar and a comfortable place to enjoy the afternoon.

That’s a useful reminder when you’re planning time out with your partner. You don’t need identical orders to have a good time together.

If bourbon isn’t your drink, our visit is one example of another option: Gina was able to order espresso while I had my pour. Ask about the current drink selection when you visit.

Football at Jallo: Three Games, Three TVs

Three televisions showing football above the bar at Jallo cigar lounge.

We arrived around 4:30 p.m., and there was a handful of people in the lounge. Jallo had the football package during our visit, and we were able to watch three different games simultaneously.

That worked well for us. We had seats, cigars, our drinks, and a choice of games to follow.

The limitation was simple: only three TVs.

A package that offers all the games is useful, but the screens determine how many you can actually watch at once. If you’re going specifically for your team, check with the lounge about that game before making it your Sunday destination.

During our quieter visit, the setup fit the afternoon. On a busier Sunday, with several groups wanting different games, those three screens could become a bigger consideration.

Kiryanna Made the Stop Better

Our bartender, Kiryanna, deserves a mention.

She was sweet, friendly, and attentive. She stayed on top of our table, which made it easy to settle in and enjoy the visit.

I spent years in the restaurant business, and service is something I notice. A room can have chandeliers, a nice bottle display, and comfortable furniture. The person taking care of you still makes a difference.

Kiryanna helped make this feel like a place we were glad we had stopped.

The Patio Gives You Another Place to Settle In

Covered patio seating with wicker chairs, fans, and string lights at Jallo.

The outdoor area adds another reason to take your time at the Jallo cigar lounge.

Wood pergolas, string lights, fans, wicker seating, and barrel-base tables give the patio its own character. A Four Roses Bourbon umbrella fits the setting, and a pass-through bar connects the outdoor area with the lounge.

We spent time outside as well as inside. That gave us a chance to experience both sides: the leather-chair lounge with football on the screens and the more open patio setup.

For a Florida afternoon with a cigar, having those seating options is a useful part of the appeal.

Would I Go Back to Jallo?

Boxed cigars displayed on wooden shelves in Jallo’s walk-in cigar room.

Yes. I’d go back for another relaxed bourbon-and-cigar stop with Gina.

The Jallo cigar lounge gave us comfortable seating, an indoor and outdoor choice, a full bar, football, and attentive service. It also had a substantial walk-in cigar room and liquor-store selection to explore.

My main reservation is the three-TV limit. If a particular game is the reason for your visit, check on it first. If you’re looking for somewhere to sit with your partner, enjoy your own drinks and cigars, and catch some football, our Sunday experience made a good case for stopping.

That’s the kind of practical detail I want from a lounge review: what made the visit enjoyable, and what might matter when you plan yours.

Leave a Little Room for the Unplanned Stop

The talent show was the reason we headed to New Port Richey. Jallo became another enjoyable part of the day because we noticed it and made time to stop.

An uplifting show. Time with Gina. Bourbon, espresso, cigars, and football. Friendly service and somewhere comfortable to sit.

That’s a Sunday I’m happy to write about.
